Problem

During the 1990s, the U.S. government virtually withdrew its support to developing countries for long-term graduate student training in the U.S., and sharply reduced support for strengthening African universities and collaborative US-African research programs. Without access to advanced knowledge in fields as diverse as trade, biotechnology, agriculture, education, infectious diseases, information technology, energy, and environment, developing countries will grow more marginalized.

The Gift

Your gift of $1000 will support one week of a research fellow’s time to create an online database of U.S. university programs with African universities, including ongoing research projects related to African agricultural development, a listing of U.S. faculty and researchers with interests in African agriculture, and former and current African students of U.S. universities. This database will be made available to US and African researchers and used in a new initiative by the Partnership and collaborators to increase US funding for US-Africa higher education linkages.
